This spring add some sparkle to your indoor garden space by creating this one-of-a-kind keepsake!
To create your very own burned wood keepsake you will need:
- Wood Slice
- Wood Burning Tool
- Pencil
- Custom Stencil Design
- Glitter / Glitter Glue (optional)
Create your stencil using our custom stencil design studio. Start by picking out your favorite saying, even add cute image to go along with the words. I love sparkles and this fairy is absolutely perfect for this project.
Once you have received your custom stencil, and have gathered all the necessary tools, you’re ready to start.
Our stencils are made of a plastic material, which will melt when heat is applied to the stencil. As you can imagine, this creates a bit of a challenge when wood burning! Our solution is simple – before you even touch the wood burning tool – trace through the stencil onto the wood surface with a pencil to transfer your design. After tracing the design, make sure you remove the stencil and place it somewhere out of reach of the burning tool.
Turn the heat on the tool to the recommended heat setting for the surface you are using. Be sure not to touch the metal tip of the tool as it is heating up. This is the part of the tool that becomes hot and it will burn you! Only touch the plastic handle that has the grip on it.
Once the tool has heated to the perfect temperature, you may start burning.Follow the marks you made with your pencil at a slow and steady pace for the best results.
This project tends to take a bit longer than most stencil projects, so remember to pace yourself.Go slow and take a few breaks if needed.
After I was done burning the design into the wood, I thought it would be nice to add a bit of glitter to really make the fairy pop! I used a tiny bit of glue inside the burned spots of the design and added a fine gold glitter. You could use your favorite color of glitter or even use watercolor paints to add a pop of color to the wood. If you decide to use watercolor paints on your wood, I recommend using a rubbing alcohol rather than water with the paints to prevent bleeding with the grain of the wood.
When you are finished adding glitter or paint to your wood slice, you could add something to the back to hang it up. This would look great in your garden or even just hanging in your house!
